persephone pants

Sewing pattern by Anna Allen.

This is a really easy style to sew and a great start for beginners, who are feeling confident enough to tackle a pant. As long as your machine can manage a 8 to 10oz fabric. You could actually omit the belt loops and pockets to simplify and no one would notice!

It took me a while to sew these pants up. I downloaded the PDF, sewed up two test garments. One in an unbleached calico and another in a cheap 10oz twill. I then sat on them for a couple of months, being distracted by other newly released sewing patterns!

This is a really well drafted pattern an easy to adjust if necessary.

Most young figures under size 8, could probably can get away with the crotch shape unaltered, but for me it required tweaking. See images below for how I altered

I also straightened up the centre back seam, this is a magic alteration that helps to eliminate those dreaded drag lines, that can run from the side seam to the inseam.

What I added at the CB seam, I removed at the side seam position as a short dart, which is barley visible when worn. To help me find the side seam position, I overlaid a pair of wide leg pants over the persephone pattern.

Style Arc’s Natasha pants are my go to for wide leg pants. The crotch shape is good and actually fitted me without any alterations, which doesn’t happen that often. Style arc patterns do hit the mark for me, more than most.

Note if you have a sway back the above alteration won’t work for you. It works well for straighter figure types.

Note: The red marking pen is where I started to drop the crotch curve on the pattern.

Highlighted orange is what I added to CB. Crotch was lowered, you can just see the cut out section in black. Added side dart and moved the back dart over as well. I added a zip fly.
See my tutorial for zippered fly.

  1. Thank you so much! I have that extra fabric under the butt and had no clue how to eliminate it. Never would have thought of this. Not sure why it works but I’m gonna try it. I did think the back crotch curve was very shallow.
